Black & White Magazine | Award Winner Single Image
In the rugged valley of the Sierra Madres, in the Mexican state of Chihuahua, the Tarahumara manage to hold onto enduring traditions despite the ever changing landscape that surrounds their mountain home. A place that they consider to be the center of the world. This image was taken during their Semana Santa celebration. After several days of dancing to the beat of a drum and drinking Tesgüino, a homemade and sacred corn beer, the community walked to the cemetery in silence. The women pierced the silence in song and prayer. This image depicts that moment. The image was recognized by Black & White Magazine as Best Single Image in 2018 and is available as a limited edition print.
